It has been generally reported that 10 to 50 percent of men treated for prostate cancer have some level of rectal pain or complaints of other side effects after radiation. In this study, 231 study participants received intensity-modulated radiation and image-guided radiation therapies for prostate cancer and were tracked for 1.4 years. After receiving this highly targeted radiation therapy, nearly 98 percent of these participants had no long-term rectal damage and, of the potent men, 72 percent reported that they had maintained sexual activity post-treatment. Also, the combination radiation therapy caused no long-term urinary side effects.
