Rectum in Prostate Cancer

The rectum is the last portion of the large intestine which connects to the anal sphincter. The rectum stores feces before they are expelled from the body during defecation. The rectum touches the prostate gland’s peripheral zone which is where prostate cancer usually develops. Through the digital rectal exam, a doctor can determine irregularities in the gland that may indicated prostate cancer.
