Green tea comes from the tea plant camellia sinensis. Green tea is made when these leaves are partially fermented, as opposed to white tea where the leaves are not fermented, and black tea where the leaves are completely fermented. Green tea contains anti-oxidants which have been shown to combat free radicals that damage cells and may be linked to cancer. Studies have linked the consumption of green tea with lower levels of prostate cancer. Japan has an extremely low occurrence of prostate cancer, especially among those men who consume green tea as part of a rural Japanese diet which is based on fish and rice.
