Etoposide and Prostate Cancer Chemotherapy

Etoposide is from a group of chemotherapy drugs known as antineoplastics or anti-tumor antibiotics. Etoposide works by inhibiting the growth, maturation, or spread of neoplastic cells. A prostate cancer tumor is made of neoplastic tissue which grows abnormally. Etoposide, like chemotherapy drugs, have severe side effects that can include hair loss and the suppression of the function of bone marrow. Etoposide is often used to treat advanced prostate cancer, hormone refractory prostate cancer, and recurrent prostate cancer.
