Core Samples in Prostate Cancer

Core samples are extracted from the prostate gland during the prostate biopsy. Core samples are taken in patterns ranging from 6 to 13. In early prostate cancer stages, the tumor is small and the biopsy could possibly miss the tumor. Some doctors believe that taking a larger number of core samples or taking samples from specific regions give a more conclusive diagnosis.
