Alpha-blocker after Prostate Cancer

The alpha-blocker is a type of antiadrenergic which is used in the treatment of overflow incontinence after prostate cancer treatment. The alpha-blocker binds to the alpha adrenergic receptor and prevents the constriction of the bladder neck muscles. Because overflow incontinence is caused by the tightening of the bladder neck muscles when the urinary bladder is full and distended, preventing constriction while inciting relaxation allows the patient to void freely.
