Urethral Stricture after Prostate Cancer Treatment

Urethral stricture is internal damage to the body’s urethra. Urethral stricture can occur as a complication of prostate cancer treatments such as cryotherapy. Because cryotherapy freezes the prostate gland, the surrounding organs such as the bladder and the urethra are vulnerable to damage. The warming catheter used in the cryotherapy procedure decreases the risk of complications such as urethral stricture. The radical prostatectomy also may cause urethral stricture during the treatment of prostate cancer.
