Saw palmetto is
a dried ripe fruit from the American dwarf saw palmetto
plant used as an alternative therapy in the treatment
of prostate cancer. Saw palmetto has been shown to relieve
symptoms of prostate enlargement and is widely accepted
and prescribed in Europe. However, in the United States,
many medical establishments have chosen to disregard
saw palmetto because information on its active ingredients
and the mechanism of its action has yet to be clarified.
