Receptors and Prostate Cancer Hormone Therapy

Receptors are parts of the cell that are able to receive a specific chemical and incite an action in or of the cell. In prostate cancer hormone therapy, LHRH antagonists and LHRH agonists affect the receptors of the pituitary gland to prevent the production of testosterone. The anti-androgen blocks the receptors of the prostate cells’ nuclei and prevents the action of testosterone on the prostate gland.
