Nitrates and Impotence After Prostate Cancer

Nitrates refer to any chemical compound that contains radical univalent NO3. Nitrates make up compounds such as nitroglycerine and isosorbides which are vasodilators that are effective in dilating the blood vessels in those with coronary disease. Prostate cancer patients who experience impotence as a side effect of treatment should not take drugs such as sildenafil, varendafil, or tadalafil if they are also taking a nitrate-based drug for coronary heart disease.
