Neutrons in Prostate Cancer

The neutron is subatomic particles with no electrical charge. The neutron’s atomic mass is slightly greater than that of a proton. The proton and the neutron make up the nucleus of an atom and, when not bound to the atom’s nucleus, the neutron is unstable. Neutron beam radiation therapy is another form of prostate cancer radiation therapy. Neutron beam radiation therapy however has been associated with a wider ranger of adverse side effects to the surrounding tissue. A few centers in the United States are investigating the benefits of this form of prostate cancer treatment.
