The neurovascular nerve
bundles are responsible for stimulating erections
in the penis. The two nerve bundles lie on either side
of the prostate gland. When the prostatectomy is used
as a patientÌs prostate cancer treatment, it
is possible to spare these nerve bundles by using the
nerve-spring technique. Generally, only those undergoing
radical retropubic prostatectomy and who have small
tumors that are no extending into the nerves are candidates
for the nerve-sparing prostatectomy for the treatment
of prostate cancer.
