Nerve-sparing Technique in Prostate Cancer Treatment

The neurovascular nerve bundles are responsible for stimulating erections in the penis. The two nerve bundles lie on either side of the prostate gland. When the prostatectomy is used as a patientÌs prostate cancer treatment, it is possible to spare these nerve bundles by using the nerve-spring technique. Generally, only those undergoing radical retropubic prostatectomy and who have small tumors that are no extending into the nerves are candidates for the nerve-sparing prostatectomy for the treatment of prostate cancer.
