Magnetic resonance spectroscopy
is abbreviated as MRS. MRS is conducted exactly the
same as the MRI, but its capabilities go further. While
examining soft tissue to determine the presence of prostate
cancer, the MRS examines levels of chemicals choline
and citrate in the prostate. Since many doctors have
found that prostate cancer cells contain more choline
and citrate than normal tissues, MRS has proven a useful
tool to indicate which areas of the prostate gland are
more cancerous than others.
