Lymph nodes are small glands located throughout the body that filter a clear fluid known as lymphatic fluid; lymph nodes filter out bacteria and other toxins, in addition to cancerous cells. The lymph nodes make up the lymphatic system. In the case of prostate cancer, extension into the regional lymph nodes located near the bladder indicates that the cancer could spread very quickly. After extension to the lymph nodes, prostate cancer treatment options are limited.
