Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy for Prostate Cancer

Low Dose Rate brachytherapy stands for low dose rate brachytherapy. The radioactive seeds are permanently implanted into the prostate gland where they emit continuous amounts of radioactive energy. The two most common types of radioactive material used in LDR brachytherapy to treat prostate cancer are iodine-125 and palladium-103. Eventually the radioactive material decays and leaves a titanium shell, the casing of the radioactive seed, within the prostate gland.
