A linear accelerator
is a machine used during prostate cancer external radiation
therapy. The linear accelerator works by accelerating
particles such as photons to high speeds. When the particles
reach a certain speed, the particles are carefully aimed
at the prostate cancer patient who is being treated.
The goal of prostate cancer radiation therapy is to
treat the affected prostate while minimizing the damage
to the surrounding organs.
