Leuprolide for Prostate Cancer Hormone Therapy

Leuprolide (registered as both Lupron and Lupron Depot) is a LHRH agonist used as prostate cancer hormone therapy. A LHRH agonist works by mimicking normal LHRH and fitting into receptors in the pituitary gland. Leuprolide can cause hormone flare which can be painful and dangerous for prostate cancer patients with advanced prostate cancer with bone metastasis.
