Kegel Exercises after Prostate Cancer

Kegel exercises are done by contracting the muscles associated with the urinary sphincter which allows the bladder to hold urine. Incontinence is common after all types of prostate cancer treatments. Kegel exercises may help restore continence. Kegel exercises are performed by contracting the muscles in the pelvis, as though is trying to hold or stop a stream of urine or trying not to pass gas. Patients hold the contraction then release then repeat. Some men perform Kegel exercises while urinating by stopping and restarting the flow of urine.
