Interstitial therapy literally means therapy that is administered within the tissues. Brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer is an example of interstitial therapy. The brachytherapy seeds are planted in the prostate gland and are allowed to irradiate the tissues continuously over a period of weeks. External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) is administered from outside of the body over period of weeks.
