Corpora cavernosa
are two column of spongy tissue in the penis that hold
as much as 90 percent of the blood that causes erections.
Prostate cancer treatments such as the prostatectomy
or radiation
therapy may seal the veins that allow blood to flow
into these caverns. Drugs such as the oral sildenafil
or penile
suppositories and injections
or the vacuum
erection device may increase the flow of blood into
the penis.
