Cancer
occurs when cells begin to grow quickly and uncontrollably.
A cell usually spends only a small portion of its cell
cycle dividing; most of its life is spent growing and
storing energy so that it can divide and make two healthy
daughter cells. Cancer circumvents this process, so
the cells, which do not die, quickly amass. Prostate
cancer is an unusual form of cancer, because most cases
of prostatic adenocarcinoma grow very slowly and cannot
be killed by chemotherapy, which is commonly used in
many other types of cancer treatments.
