Bone density or
bone mineral density refers to
the volume of a bone. Bones that have a normal volume
are considered healthy and not prone to fracture. Bones
that low volumes are at risk for fracture and a disease
called osteoporosis. Prostate cancer patients who are
undergoing hormone therapy will be given bone mineral
density tests to measure the volume of their bones.
Hormone ablation often will result in decreased bone
density and a higher risk of osteoporosis.
