Bisphosphonates
are drugs that diminish the destructive effect of prostate
cancer after it has spread into the bones. Zoledronic
acid is a type of bisphosphonate which can be used in
conjunction with chemotherapy
or hormone
therapy and inhibits the release of calcium from
the bones. Bone cancer is an uncommon type of cancer,
but unfortunately, bone metastasis does occur more frequently
in advanced prostate cancer stages.
