Alprostadil after Prostate Cancer Treatment


Alprostadil is a vasodilator used to increase blood flow to the penis and to cause an erection. Alprostadil is used for patients who experience impotence as a result of prostate cancer treatment. Alprostadil is usually given by injection into the corpora cavernosa of the penis. A doctor determines the appropriate dose of alprostadil and usually will administer the first injection. The patient will administers the following injections. Erection should occur within 5 to 20 minutes of injection. Alprostadil should not be injected into an erect penis.
