Adjuvant therapy is
given at the same time as another treatment to benefit
the patient. In the treatment of prostate cancer, an
example of adjuvant therapy would be the use of early
chemotherapy,
which occurs before the patient develops hormone
refractory prostate cancer. External beam radiation
therapy may also be used during prostate brachytherapy
to catch the disease is it has spread outside of the
cloud of radiation engulfing the prostate gland.
