Ablation means
the removal or destruction of something by force; in
the case of prostate cancer patients, the ‘something’
is either androgen or prostate cancer. In prostate cancer
hormone
therapy, the surgical castration and medical castration
options ablate testosterone in the body by interfering
with the production. Anti-androgen is not hormone ablation
because the drugs interferes with the reception of testosterone
and does not remove it. Cryotherapy
is also known as cryoablation which means ‘destruction
by freezing.’ Sub-zero temperatures ablate prostate
cancer that localized within the prostate gland.
