Water-soluble vitamins
dissolve in water. After they are ingested, the vitamins
dissolve in the fluids of the stomach, and the body
absorbs them as needed. If there is too much of a water-soluble
vitamin present, the body flushes the excess out with
the urine. Water-soluble vitamins are different than
fat-soluble vitamins, which can accumulate in the fatty
tissues of the body and possibly cause toxicity. A diet
that is well-balanced usually contains enough vitamins
to avoid needing supplements, however, men who are interested
in assessing their risk for prostate cancer based on
their diet should speak with their doctors.
