Vinorelbine (Navelbine)

Vinorelbine is an antineoplastic chemotherapy agent. The trade name for vinorelbine is Navelbine. This chemotherapy drug is classified as a vinca alkaloid, which means that it derives from a plant; in this case the Madagascar periwinkle. In the treatment of prostate cancer, vinorelbine may be given as a single agent or used in combination with prednisone or other chemotherapy agents, such as docetaxel. Some doctors may suggest vinorelbine for patients with metastatic hormone refractory prostate cancer. Side effects associated with vinorelbine include lowered resistance to infection, bruising or bleeding, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, numbness or tingling in hands or feet, tiredness and a general feeling of weakness.
