The vas deferens
is a tube that connects the testicles to the seminal
vesicles. The vas deferens transports sperm immediately
before ejaculation. Vasectomy is a form of birth control
which ties off the vas deferens and prevents the body
from releasing sperm. Vasectomy does not cause a drop
in the level of testosterone as does surgical castration,
so libido or sexual potency are not effected. Prostate
cancer hormone treatment may remove the testicles to
control the growth of prostate cancer and removal of
the testicles themselves does effect libido and sexual
potency.
