Subcutaneous Fat and Prostate Cancer

Subcutaneous fat is located directly beneath the skin and is visible from outside the body. Subcutaneous fat is not as dangerous to health as visceral fat which surrounds the organs. High levels of fat, especially those associated with obesity, may contribute to the onset of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer and prostate cell growth is fueled by the male sex hormone testosterone. Testosterone production increases as the level of body fat increases.
