Saturated fat is
usually derived from an animal source and is a solid
at room temperature. Saturated fats have been shown
to increase the amount of "bad" cholesterol
(LDL) in the blood and contribute to higher rates of
cardiovascular disease. A higher consumption of saturated
fat has also been linked to higher occurrence of prostate
cancer. Higher levels of fat in the body fuel the production
of testosterone which fuels the production of prostate
cells. Men who are interested in preventing prostate
cancer may make dietary changes that decreases the amount
of fat that they consume in their diet. There is no
evidence that shows that decreasing the amount of saturated
fat in the diet prevents prostate cancer, but decreasing
fat is proven to promote benefits to one’s overall
health.
