Prednisone and Prostate Cancer Chemotherapy

Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid and is used an antiflammatory agent for rheumatoid arthritis. Prednisone is sometimes used with chemotherapy drugs, specifically mitoxantrone, for patients with advanced prostate cancer or hormone refractory prostate cancer with distant bone metastasis. Bone metastasis can be painful and the use of prednisone helps alleviate pain during chemotherapy.
