Prednisolone

Prednisolone is a type of glucocorticoid with the general properties of corticosteroids. Typically, prednisolone is used to reduce inflammation and suppress the body's immune response. Prednisolone is used in the treatment of prostate cancer, specifically hormone refractory prostate cancer, either alongside chemotherapy or as an active agent on its own. It may be used as an alternative to anti-androgens. Prednisolone functions similar to a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands and works to prevent the production of testosterone in the body. Some studies show that prednisolone may actually have a direct action on prostate cancer cells as well.
