Permanent seed implants
for brachytherapy are made of either iodine-125 or palladium-103
stored within a titanium shell. Radioactive seeds are
used in LDR brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate
cancer. These seeds are not rejected by the body because
of the titanium casing and continuously emit radiation
to the prostate gland in hopes of killing prostate cancer.
