IMRT is the abbreviation for intensity modulated radiation therapy which is a radiation therapy for prostate cancer that a uses photon beam generated by a linear accelerator. In IMRT, the beam of radiation used to treat the prostate gland is much thinner and therefore is more precise then other types of radiation therapy that use photon beams. IMRT is also capable of irradiating the cancerous tissue from multiple angles. The equipment rotates around the patients during treatment.
