Hypofractionated Radiation Therapy

Hypofractionated radiation delivers higher doses of radiation through pencil-thin beams to targeted areas of the body in fewer treatment sessions. Benefits of this abbreviated course of radiation therapy include reduced patient visits and thus reduced cost, and fewer side effects when compared to conventional radiation therapy. This prostate cancer treatment is painless and noninvasive. Typically, individual treatment sessions last between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the type of tumor. Hypofractionated radiation may be delivered in sessions over several days or it may be limited to a one-time occurrence.
