Carboplatin (Paraplatin)

Carboplatin is a chemotherapy agent often referred to under the trade name Paraplatin. Carboplatin is an alkylating agent, which kills cancer cells by binding to DNA and interfering with the cell’s repair mechanism eventually leading to a cell’s death. In the treatment of prostate cancer, carboplatin may be used in combination with other agents, such as Docetaxel (Taxotere). Some doctors may recommend carboplatin as a second line chemotherapy agent for men with advanced prostate cancer. Common side effects of this chemotherapy drug are nausea and vomiting.
